If “Nightmare Alley” turns out to be a thrilling, supernatural period-piece stacked to the brim with talent and with an exhilarating score, then this new trailer did its job. I’m so excited to be back in Guillermo Del Toro’s imagination. The only odd thing here is that, with the addition of a voice-over, we now have a full-fledged mini-trailer introducing the full trailer… but that’s not what I’m reacting to:

I’m not even clear on what the story IS (though it is based on a novel) and I LOVE that, because this bothered to tell it’s audience WHY it should care, offering character details from our “medium’ and “doctor” and hints at relationships while still hiding so much.

Directed by Guillermo del Toro, written by Kim Morgan and Guillermo del Toro, and produced by J. Miles Dale and Guillermo del Toro, Searchlight Pictures will release this in theaters everywhere starting December 17th, 2021.
