Week 8 of the NFL Season comes to a close tonight in Seattle. The battle between the Seahawks and the Bears, which figures to be key to the NFC Playoff race, could be one of the best of the weekend. I’ll have a preview of the game below. But first, let’s look at some key takeaways from the rest of Week 8.
No more unbeatens
The Vikings went to Detroit and came up short. With the 19-15 win, the Lions eliminated the last remaining unbeaten team in the league. The Lions also kept in the race in a crowded NFC North, while the Vikings came back to the pack a bit. The Vikings’ defense is still near the top of the league, but the offense just can’t get it going. If they don’t find a way to score more points, it might be hard to be a contender in the NFC.
Still winless in Los Angeles
While the Vikings’ loss ensured there are no more undefeated teams, the Chargers weren’t as lucky. They had an early lead over the Rams, but their Los Angeles counterparts came away with the 24-9 victory. The Chargers slip to 0-7 as the nightmare season, and their nightmare offensive production, continues.
The Steelers take control
Meanwhile, in the other loaded North division, the Steelers won a battle with the Cleveland Browns to move to 6-2. The Steelers have quietly rolled off four straight wins and taken sole possession of first place. It’s still a fierce battle with the 4-4 Ravens sitting in last place. But the reunion between Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy is delivering so far.
And now, on to Monday Night Football.
Chicago Bears (5-2) at Seattle Seahawks (4-3)
The Bears have been much improved on offense, while the defense has been getting it done. Aside from division losses to the Vikings and Packers, the Bears have been perfect. It’s been far-from-perfect for the Seahawks in their title defense. The team has struggled at times with turnovers, but the defense is rounding into shape and the offense is getting healthier. They are determined to keep pushing in a crowded NFC West.
For the Bears, Caleb Williams is a QB2 for me this week due to the defense. D’Andre Swift has been great, but he’s an RB2 in this matchup. In the passing game, it’s hard to know if Luther Burden, Rome Odunze, or Colston Loveland will be the featured target. They all have talent, but it’s a tough matchup. The receivers are WR3s for me, while Loveland is a TE2. All of them have upside.
For the Seahawks, Sam Darnold is a QB2. He has had some flashes, but he hasn’t been as consistent this season. In the backfield, Jadarian Price has a chance to join Zach Charbonnet, who will make his season debut. They’ll also have Emanuel Wilson. That makes for a crowd, and I’m not trusting any of them as more than a flex. In the passing game, Jaxson Smith-Njigba is a WR1. I’m not trusting any other Seahawks’ pass catchers.
I’m picking Seattle in a low-scoring one.
