This week the D.C. film Clayface drops in theaters. It isn’t the first time we’ve gotten a D.C. film that focuses on the villain. This week’s binge looks at previous D.C. films built around villains. Films appear in chronological order.

Catwoman (2004)
About:
We’ve seen Catwoman in countless Batman films. She’s always a mixed bag, not quite good but also not all bad. So, in 2004 with Halle Berry in the lead role, they tried to bring it to life. It doesn’t work, as you might well imagine.

Suicide Squad (2016)
About
: This was a big plank of the Snyderverse, a film built around a team of villains tasked with trying to do good. It featured Will Smith and an Oscar-worthy turn from Margot Robbie. It also inspired a James Gunn follow up a few years later.

Joker (2019)
About:
This is a film centered on another iconic Batman villain, though it’s somewhat removed from the comic books. It was well received and earned Joaquin Phoenix an Oscar. It inspired a sequel that wasn’t as well received.

Birds of Prey (2020)
About:
This one plucked Robbie’s Harley Quinn out of her Suicide Squad spot and paired her with a new team of ladies. I thought this one was fun and more than a little under-rated.

Black Adam (2022)
About:
One of the last gasps of the Snyderverse was this film starring Dwayne Johnson. It worked in Superman, and I thought it was actually fairly entertaining. But it was widely panned and didn’t do well at the Box Office.
