The latest in the world of live action comes in the form of DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon. Over the years they have been hit-and-miss, and this world is a bit more complex than some of the others that have come to life. I share my thoughts on the film and whether it’s worth checking out on the big screen.

What is How to Train Your Dragon about?

On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black PhoneFor All Mankind) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his voice role from the animated franchise), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society.

How to Train a Dragon (2025) – Movie Review

Overall, How to Train Your Dragon is one of the better live-action movies we have seen. It is filled with plenty of heart, comedy, and fresh perspective while also honoring the original. Mason Thames and Nico Parker stand out from the cast as bringing these characters to life while Gerard Butler is great as the chief. I highly recommend checking this one out.
