A brand crime biopic is coming to BET+ on February 27 called Fighting To Be Me: The Dwen Curry Story. We have the trailer and more details surrounding the show to share with you.

Dyllón Burnside(Pose) stars as the lead, alongside D.B. Woodside(9-1-1: Lone Star)and A.J. Johnson (Baby Boy), in this BET+ Original film about the coming-of-age tale of the Oakland icon.

Based on the powerful true-life story, Detroit native Dwen Curry is forced to move to Oakland, CA in the early 90s to overcome drug addiction and depression. After finding success as a salon owner and celebrity stylist, Dwen becomes fueled by desire for a lavish lifestyle and leads a secret life making millions from fraud. Dwen’s life is even more complicated by his sexuality, identity, and struggles with self-acceptance as Dwen journeys from being a gay man to fully accepting herself as transgender. 

FIGHTING TO BE ME: THE DWEN CURRY STORY is filled with glitz, glamour, and gangster moves while grappling with family, love, identity, and trying to survive the dangers of leading a criminal life.
