LAID will premiere December 19, 2024 on Peacock.
Plot: A woman finds out her former lovers are dying in unusual ways and must go back through her sex timeline to confront her past in order to move forward – “Laid” is a f**cked up rom-com where the answer to “why can’t I find love, is there something wrong with me?” is a resounding “Yes. There is. The problem is definitely you.”
The premise alone had me sold on Laid, but the fact that Stephanie Hsu was leading the way in the series was a bonus. I am a massive fan of her work, and her ability to make you laugh in this series has only proved that she is a gem.
I sat down, watched the pilot (and the second episode), and laughed hysterically. This show’s opening moments will hook audiences in, and they will want to binge-watch it all in one sitting. Hsu stars as Ruby, who is over the world of online dating. As everyone around her tells her she will find love, her exes start to die one by one. Basically, anyone that Ruby had sex with starts dying.
The first two episodes sold me on Laid, and I highly recommend checking it out when it drops on December 19. Luckily for audiences, you can use the holidays to binge it all at once, with all eight episodes dropping at release. It’s funny and charming, and Hsu proves she is one of the gems in the comedy world.
EARTH ABIDES finds the human race all but wiped out when a plague of unprecedented virulence sweeps the globe. In the aftermath, as the great machine of civilization slowly and inexorably breaks down, only a few shattered survivors remain to struggle against the slide into extinction. Based on the 1949 novel by George R. Stewart, EARTH ABIDES stars Alexander Ludwig, Jessica Frances Dukes, and Aaron Tveit. The six-episode series premieres on December 1 on MGM+ and then every Sunday throughout December.
Alexander Ludwig stars as Isherwood Williams, who learns that the world around him has fallen into a mysterious illness. Upon watching, I was like, “Oh, great. We need another post-apocalyptic series. ” When I was done watching the first two episodes, I was hooked and wanted more.
Creator Todd Komarnicki created this chilling premise with an atmosphere that sets the tone early on, making you feel like you are part of the ride. Like other shows of this nature, you insert yourself into the story wondering what you would do if you were in the same spot Ish was.
Ludwig is an incredible actor (please bring back HEELS for season 3) and delivered the goods in the first two episodes. Again, much of the early build is trying to set the tone for this character and the obstacles they are about to face because of the shocking revelation of this illness and those around him that fall. I can’t wait to see more of the show and what he delivers in this role.
Overall, the first two episodes of Earth Abides bring the A game, making me want to watch more of it. I loved every bit of this and highly recommend checking it out on MGM+.
