The Garfield Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on May 24. I caught the advanced screening of the film and let you know if it’s worth checking out in theaters.

Heading into The Garfield Movie, I didn’t have many expectations. I was hoping for a good movie that would make me laugh a little and feel some nostalgia for the characters on the screen. Sadly, the script is just a bunch of nonsense. They took what could’ve been a solid animated movie and tried to stuff it with an underwhelming script that missed the mark.

The voice acting is fine for the most part, minus Chris Pratt’s uneven voice work as Garfield. Throughout the film, you could hear the voice crack within the film and turn into his own voice. I am just not a fan of Pratt in the world of animation, and I think he needs to stay away for a little while.

Below is my breakdown of the film in video form expanding on my thoughts above.

Directed by: Mark Dindal

Cast: Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang, Snoop Dogg

Plot: Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt), the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.
