The latest series from the DailyWire+ Mr. Birchum has a star-studded cast, including Adam Carolla, Danny Trejo, Rob Riggle, and many more. The first episode of two episodes dropped on the streaming platform on May 12th, and I will share my thoughts on the first episode and let you know if it’s worth checking out.

The first episode synopsis: “Chaos erupts when teachers revive their yearly bet, only for a zealous new officer to enforce political correctness. A humorous clash between old-school teaching methods and contemporary ideologies ensues on the school’s first day back.”

Mr. Birchum first two episodes are available on DailyWire+ now.

Let me start by saying I love the sitcom-style opening, where you get a little piece of the show before opening into the title sequence. As for the title sequence, it was reminiscent of the early days of great animation. Albeit short (which is perfect), it delivers that perfect little opener to get the party started.

Mr. Birchum, played by Adam Carolla, is an old-school teacher who likes to do things his way. Of course, in the modern world, Mr. Birchum’s ways aren’t welcomed at the school, and even at home, his wife tries to adapt a little but isn’t having it. If you think of Ron Swanson in the modern day, you have Mr. Birchum.

Honestly, Adam Carolla is brilliant as Mr. Birchum because he reminds you of your own dad, especially if you grew up in the 80s and early 90s. He is a hard-nosed old guy stuck in his own way and struggling to adapt to his children being in the modern world. He is HILARIOUS throughout this entire episode. Any hesitations about this series are thrown out the window based on Carolla’s portrayal of Mr. Birchum.

Overall, like most comedies, some lines land better than others. It pushes the boundaries of the “woke” part of the world, which can sometimes feel a little forced. When the show focuses on Mr. Birchum facing the challenges of adapting to the modern world, it is hilarious. Adam Carolla is the MVP and worthy of watching for his voice work alone.

Funniest line: “When Wendi tells her husband Mr. Birchum that their son has 50 thousand followers online, he responds with “What is he a cult leader.” I died laughing.

Continue or skip?: Based on the pilot, this is definitely something I would continue watching. The comedy isn’t for everyone, and that is fine, but the relatability to the main character and his family makes it worth watching. Give it a try, and let me know what you think in the comments.
