The major fall film festivals have come to an end, and many of those films will be released this month. It’s great to hear that the AMPTP and the WGA have come to an agreement and the strike is over. Hopefully, SAG will be able to get a deal that protects them this month, too!

Nov. 3:

Priscilla is written and directed by Sofia Coppola. Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi star as Priscilla and Elvis Presley respectfully. The film also stars Ari Cohen, Tim Post, and Dagmara Dominczyk. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival this year and is a centerpiece selection at the New York Film Festival. Cailee Spaeny was the winner of the Venice Actress category this year. It is an A24 release with an exception from SAG-AFTRA, which is how the cast was able to attend the premiere.

All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt is an A24 film that follows a Mississippi woman’s life. It originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year. It was written and directed by Raven Jackson, and it stars Kaylee Nicole Johnson, Chris Chalk, Jayah Henry, Sheila Atim, Preston McDowell, Charleen McClure, and Reginald Helms Jr.

Rustin stars Colman Domingo, Aml Ameen, Glynn Turman, Chris Rock, Gus Halper, Johnny Ramey, CCH Pounder, Michael Potts, Audra McDonald, and Jeffrey Wright. It was directed by George C. Wolfe and written by Julian Breece and Dustin Lance Black. It will be in limited release this weekend and will be released on Netflix on November 17th.

The Marsh King’s Daughter is directed by Neil Burger. It was adapted by Elle Smith and Mark L. Smith from the book of the same name. It stars Daisy Ridley, Ben Mendelsohn, Garrett Hedlund, Brooklynn Prince, and Gil Birmingham. It will be in limited release by the distribution company Roadside Attractions.

What Happens Later is a romantic comedy written by, directed by, and stars Meg Ryan. Her love interest in the film is David Duchovny. It was also written by Steven Dietz and Kirk Lynn. It will be distributed by Bleeker Street.

Nov. 10:

The Marvels is the follow-up film to 2019’s Captain Marvel. The film stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Zawe Ashton, and Samuel L. Jackson. It is directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and DaCosta. It will be released by Walt Disney Pictures.

The Holdovers premiered at the Telluride Film Festival this year. It is written by David Hemingson, directed by Alexander Payne, and stars Paul Giamatti, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Dominic Sessa, and Carrie Preston. It will be released wide by Focus Features this weekend.

Journey to Bethlehem is a live-action movie musical that follows the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. It is written by Adam Anders and Peter Barsoccnini and directed by Anders. It stars Fiona Palomo, Milo Manheim, Antonio Banderas, Moriah, Stephanie Gil, Joel Smallbone, Lecrae, Rizwan Maji, Geno Segers, and Omid Djalili. It is a Sony Pictures release.

Dream Scenario is the new Nicolas Cage movie. This A24 film also stars Julianne Nicholson, Michael Cera, Dylan Baker, Kate Berlant, Dylan Gelula, and Tim Meadows. The film was written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli and produced by Ari Aster.

Fitting In stars Maddie Ziegler, Emily Hampshire, Djouliet Amara, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Christian Rose, and Dennis Andres. It is written and directed by Molly McGlynn. It originally premiered at SXSW and later at TIFF. It is a Blue Fox Entertainment production.

Four Daughters is the Tunisian entry for the International Film Oscar category. The film stars Eya Chikhaoui, Tayssir Chikaoui, Olfa Hamrouni, Nour Karoui, Majid Mastoura, Ichrak Matar, and Hind Sabri. It is written and directed by Kaouther Ben Hania. It premiered this year at the Cannes Film Festival. It will be distributed by Kino Lorber.

It’s a Wonderful Knife stars Jane Widdop, Justin Long, and Joel McHale star in a horror comedy about a girl who ends up in a parallel universe where she no longer exists, and the world is terrible. It was written by Michael Kennedy and directed by Tyler MacIntyre. This RLJ Entertainment film will be in limited release this weekend.

Orlando, My Political Biography is a documentary that tells stories through reenactments of a Virginia Woolf novel. It was written and directed by Paul B. Preciado. It played at several film festivals including NYFF, TIFF, and the Telluride Film Festival. It will be in limited release this weekend. It will be distributed by Janus Films.

Robot Dreams is an animated film that will be released by Neon. It was adapted from a graphic novel of the same name by Pablo Berger, and it was directed by him as well. The film stars Ivan Labanda, Graciela Molina, José García Tos, José Mediavilla, Esther Solans, Tito Trifol, and Rafa Calvo. This originally premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

Nov. 17:

The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is the long-anticipated Hunger Games prequel starring Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer, Jason Schwartzman, Josh Andrés Rivera, and Viola Davis. Returning to the franchise is director Francis Lawrence. It is written by Michael Arndt and Michael Leslie. Lionsgate will be distributing the film.

Next Goal Wins is a film that has been pushed back several years and is finally being released this year. It is directed by Taika Waititi and written by Iain Morris and Waititi. It stars Michael Fassbender, Elisabeth Moss, Oscar Knightley, David Fane, Kaitlyn Dever, RHys Darby, Luke Hemsworth, Beulah Koale, Lehi Falepapalangi, Semu Filipo, Uli Latukefu, Rachel House, Kaimana, and Will Arnett. This Searchlight Pictures film will be released wide on this date.

Thanksgiving is a horror movie directed by Eli Roth. The film stars Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlawue, Rich Hoffman, Tim Dillon, and Gina Gershon. It was written by Jeff Rendel. It is a Sony Pictures release.

Trolls Band Together is the third Trolls movie. It stars Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Zooey Deschanel, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Patti Harrison, Troye Sivan, Daveed Diggs, Kunal Nayyar, Kevin Michael Richardson, Andrew Rannells, Kenan Thompson, Amy Schumer, Zosia Mamet, Eric André, Kid Cudi, and RuPaul among others. It is directed by Walt Dohrn and Tim Heitz and written by Elizabeth Tippet. This is a Universal Picture.

Fallen Leaves will be released by MUBI in a limited fashion this weekend. It is written and directed by Aki Kaurismaki. The film stars Alma Pöysti, Jussi Vantanen, Alina Tomnikov, Janne Hyytiäinen, Sakari Kuosmanen, Martti Suosalo and Sherwan Haji. This film has been to nearly every major film festival this year including NYFF, TIFF, Telluride, and Cannes. It will be Finland’s entry for the International Feature Film Category.

The Stones and Brian Jones is a documentary that includes interviews with the members of the Rolling Stones and Brian Jones. It was written and directed by Nick Broomfield. It will be released by Magnolia Pictures.

Nov. 22:

Saltburn is written and director Emerald Fennell’s follow-up to her debut film Promising Young Woman. The film stars Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe, and Richard E. Grant. It premiered this year at the Telluride Film Festival. It will be released wide this week and in limited release on November 17th.

Napoleon is the next film from acclaimed director Ridley Scott. It stars Joaquin Phoenix, Vanessa Kirby, Matthew Needham, Ben Miles, and Tahar Rahim. It was written by David Scarpa. It will be distributed in theaters by Sony Pictures, but it is an Apply TV+ production and will also be coming to the service later this year.

Wish is the big fall animated release from Walt Disney Pictures. It stars Ariana DeBose, Alan Tudyk, Evan Peters, Harvey Guillén, Victor Garber, Angelique Cabral, Natasha Rothwell, Ramy Youssef, and Chris Pine. It is co-directed by Chris Buck and Veerasunthorn, and co-written by Jennifer Lee and Allison Moore.

Maestro is Bradley Cooper’s second directorial effort. He also stars in the film along with Carey Mulligan, Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Michael Urie, Miriam Shor, and Josh Hamilton. The film was written by Josh Singer. It is also interesting to note that Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are both producers. It will have a limited theatrical release this week and be released on Netflix on December 20th.

Menus Plaisirs Les Troigros is a 4-hour documentary that follows a French restaurant that has had 3 Michelin stars for over 50 years. It was directed by Frederick Wiseman who is known for his observational approach to his films. It currently has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and has played at several film festivals including the Venice Film Festival and TIFF. If you are a food-lover, this is a great film to catch in theaters when it is released this week by the distributor Zipporah.

Monster is a film by director Hirokazu Kore-eda. It was written by Yûji Sakamoto. The film stars Sakura Ando, Eita Nagayama, Soya Kurokawa, Hinata Hiiragi, Mitsuki Takahata, Akihiro Kakuta, Yûko Tanaka, and Shidô Nakamura. This psychological thriller originally premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Queer Palm and Best Screenplay awards. It will be distributed by Well Go USA in America.

Society of the Snow will be released in theaters in a limited fashion this week before being released on Netflix on January 4th. This Brazilian film was directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, also known as J.A. Bayona, director of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. He also wrote the film along with Nicolas Casariego and Jaime Marques. It stars Enzo Vogrincic, Esteban Bigliardi, Simon Hemoe, Rafael Federman, and Andy Pruss.

Re-Releases:

The Last Waltz is a film version of the final concert and a behind-the-scenes look at The Band. It is directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Mardik Martin. It stars Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Ringo Starr. The film will return to theaters on November 5th by Fathom Events. This is especially meaningful since Robbie Robertson recently passed and his final film score that he composed was for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.

Scarface stars Al Pacino, Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Robert Loggia, Miriam Colon, Harris Yulin, and F. Murray Abraham. The film is directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone. It will be re-released in theaters by Fathom Events on November 12th.

Streaming:

Quiz Lady stars Sandra Oh, Awkwafina, Tony Hale, Holland Taylor, and Will Ferrell. It was written by Jen D’Angelo and directed by Jessica Yu. It originally premiered at TIFF this year, but it will be released by Hulu on November 3rd.

Best. Christmas. Eve. stars Brandy Norwood, Heather Graham, Matt Cendeño, and Jason Biggs. It is directed by Mary Lambert and written by Todd Calgi Gallicano and Charles Shyer. It will premiere on Netflix on November 16th.

Dashing Through the Snow is a fantasy comedy film premiering on Disney+ on November 17th. It stars Lil Rel Howrey, Ludacris, Teyonah Parris, Oscar Nunez, Gina Brillon, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Ravi Patel, Marcus Lewis, Madison Skye Validium, and Sebastian Sozzi.

Please Don’t Destroy the Treasure of Foggy Mountain stars Ben Marshall, John Higgins, Martin Herlihy, Meg Stalter, X Mayo, Bowen Yang, and Conan O’Brien. It is written by Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy and it’s directed by Paul Briganti. This Apatow Production film will be released on Peacock on November 17th.

Leo is the new Adam Sandler film coming to Netflix. It is an animated film about a 74-year-old lizard. Along with Sandler, it stars Bill Burr, Cecily Strong, Jason Alexander, Rob Schneider, Stephanie Hsu, and Kevin James. It is written by Robert Smigel, Adam Sandler, and Paul Sado, and directed by Smigel, Robert Marianetti, and David Machtenheim. It will be released on Netflix on November 21st.

Good Burger 2 is the sequel to the 1997 film Good Burger. Both Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are returning, and in the cast are Carmen Electra, Jillian Bell, Lori Beth Denberg, Alex R. Hibbert, and Lil Rel Howrey. It is directed by Phil Traill and written by Kevin Kopelow, Heath Seifert, and James III. The film will be released on Paramount+ on November 22nd.

Family Switch stars Jennifer Garner, Ed Helms, Emma Myers, Brady Noon, and Rita Morena. It is directed by McG and written by Adam Sztykiel and Victoria Strouse. It will premiere on Netflix on November 30th.
