July has so many major releases coming out this month. From huge blockbusters to anime to raunchy comedies, there is something for everyone!
July 7th
Insidious: The Red Door is Patrick Wilson’s directorial debut. He also stars in the film alongside Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins, Sinclair Daniel, Andrew Astor, and Hiam Abbass. It is written by Scott Teems. This is a Sony Pictures release.
Joy Ride is the new Lionsgate film that will be released wide this weekend. It stars Ashley Park, Stephanie Hsu, Sabrina Wu, Sherry Cola, Ronny Chieng, Desmond Chiam, Alexander Hodge, and Chris Pang. It is directed by Adele Lim and written by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao.
Earth Mama stars Tia Nomore, Erika Alexander, Doechii, Keta Price, Olivia Luccardi, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Bokeem Woodbine, and Dominic Fike. This A24 film is written and directed by Savannah Leaf. It was based on the short film written and starring Taylor Russell (Escape Room/Bones and All). It will be in limited release this weekend.
Biosphere is a two-hander film starring Sterling K. Brown and Mark Duplass. It is also written by Duplass alongside Mel Eslyn. She is also the director of the film. These two men are the last two people on Earth, and they become alarmed when their food source begins to die. The movie is being released by IFC Films.
July 12th
Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One. It also stars Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, She Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Frederick Schmidt, Charles Parnell, Rob Delaney, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, and Cary Elwes. Christopher McQuarrie is back as director and screenwriter, though Tom Cruise is his producing partner here. Paramount is releasing the film earlier than normal, on a Wednesday.
July 14th
Psycho-Pass Providence is an anime film being released by Crunchyroll this month. It is directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani and written by Makiti Fukami, Toy Ubukata, and Gen Uribuchi. It stars Kana Hanazawa, Noriko Hidaka, Takako Honda, Shizuka Itô, Kenji Nojima, Ayane Sakura, Takahiro Sakurai, Miyuki Sawashiro, Tomokazu Seki, Hiroki Touchi, Eduardo Vildasol, and Kazuhiro Yamaji.
Theater Camp premiered this year at the Sundance Film Festival. It stars Ben Platt, Molly Gordon, Noah Galvin, Amy Sedaris, Alan S. Kim, Patti Harrison, Owen Theiele, Jimmy Tatro, Ayo Edebiri, Caroline Aaron, and Nathan Lee Graham. It is directed by Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman, and written by Ben Platt, Noah Galvin, and Nick Lieberman. It is a Searchlight Pictures release.
July 21st
Barbie is one of the most anticipated films this summer. This Warner Bros. release is written and directed by Greta Gerwig, and written by Noah Baumbach. The cast list for this film is insanely large. It includes Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon, Ana Cruz Kayne, Hari Nef, Emma Mackey, Issa Raw, Ritu Arya, Michael Cera, Dua Lipa, Nicola Coughlan, Sharon Rooney, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Emerald Fennell, Jami Demetriou, Connor Swindells, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Jon Barcena, Marisa Abela, and Rhea Perlman. Also, Helen Mirren is the narrator.
On the opposite side of the color spectrum, we have writer and director Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (which has parts that are filmed in black and white). The cast includes Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, Michael Angarano, Josh Hartnett, and Kenneth Branagh, among many more. This is the first Nolan movie not associated with Warner Bros. in years. The film will be released by Universal.
Cobweb is a Lionsgate horror film that stars Lizzy Caplan, Antony Starr, Cleopatra Coleman, Ellen Dubin, Luke Busey, and Woody Norman. It is directed by Samuel Bodin and written by Chris Thomas Devlin. The film is produced by producing partners Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
July 28th
Haunted Mansion is a Walt Disney Pictures release. It is based on the ride at Disney World, and there had been a previous iteration starring Eddie Murphy. This film stars Lakeith Standfield, Rosario Dawson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Winona Ryder, Jared Leto, Owen Wilson, Dan Levy, Tiffany Haddish, Hasan Minhaj, and Danny DeVito. It is directed by Justin Simien and written by Katie Dippold.
Talk to Me is a horror film that is directed by Michael and Danny Philippou and written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman. It stars Sophie Wilde, Joe Bird, Alexandra Jensen, Otis Dhanji, Miranda Otto, Marcus Johnson, and Alexandria Steffensen. It is an A24 release.
The First Slam Dunk or Eiga Slam Dunk is a Japanese anime film being released worldwide this weekend. It is being released by a production company called GKIDS. It was written and directed by Takebiko Inoue. The film stars Masaya Fukunishi, Yoshiaki Hasegawa, Katsuhisa Hôkie, Tetsu Inada, Ryota Iwasaki, and Shinichiro Kamio.

National Lampoon’s Vacation is having a special re-release by Fandom Events. The film stars Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, Christi Brinkley, Imogene Coca, Randy Quaid, John Candy, Anthony Michael Hall, Dana Barron, and Eugen Levy. It is directed by Harold Ramis and written by John Hughes. It was originally released by Warner Bros. in July of 1983, nearly 40 years ago.
The popular horror film Terrifier is being re-released back into theaters considering its sequel film was so popular. The original production budget was a mere $35,000. It was released originally by Epic Pictures, though Iconic Releasing is putting it back into theaters this go around. Damien Leone is the writer and director, and it stars Jenna Kanell, Samantha Scaffidi, David Howard Thornton, Catherine Corcoran, and Pooya Mohseni.

The Out-Laws premiers on Netflix on July 7th. It stars Adam DeVine, Pierce Brosnan, Ellen Barkin, Nina Dobrev, Michael Rooker, Poorna Jagannathan, Julie Hagerty, Richard Kind, Lil Rey Howery, and Blake Anderson. It is written by Evan Turner and Ben Zazove, and directed by Tyler Spindel. The movie is produced by Happy Madison Productions, which is Adam Sandler’s producing company.
They Cloned Tyrone is another Netflix film premiering this month, though it will be out on July 21st instead. It is directed by Juel Taylor and written by Tony Retternmaier and Juel Taylor. The film stars John Boyega, Teyonah Parris, David Alan Grier, Kiefer Sutherland, and Jamie Foxx.
The Beanie Bubble will be released on July 21st on Apple TV+. The movie stars Zach Galifianakis, Elizabeth Banks, Sarah Snook, and Geraldine Viswanathan. It is directed by Kristin Gore and Damian Kulash and written solely by Gore.
