“Mama Bears” premieres on PBS’s Independent Lens on June 20, 2023 at 10pm ET (check local listings) The film will also be available to stream on the PBS app.

The thought-provoking documentary chronicles the journeys of Christian mothers in a network of women who call themselves “mama bears” because of the ferocity with which they fight for the rights of their LGBTQ+ children. As they reckon with the conservative beliefs they grew up with, these mothers now face losing friends and family as a result of their staunch support of their children, finding connection with other mothers within the LGBTQ+ community instead.
