A brand new Space Jam is coming out, and I am honestly excited. I know it’s cool to hate Lebron, but he is one of the best to do it. There have been many great basketball movies in our time, and I wanted to share some of my favorite.
White Men Can’t Jump
This movie is one of my all-time favorite films. The chemistry between Woody and Wesley is perfect. The film’s story does a great job of emotionally attaching yourself to the journey, and there are some fantastic shots during the games. Rosa Perez is a treat in this as well.
The Way Back
A recent one but also one of the better emotionally sports films you will see. The focus was less about basketball and more about the development of Jack (Ben Affleck) overcoming his demons to become a better man. Ben Affleck and Gavin O’Connor brought us a fantastic movie.
BASEketball
Is it a basketball movie? or a baseball movie? It is a mix of both. BASEketball is hands down one of my all-time favorite comedies. Doug Remer and Joe Cooper, played by Matt Stone and Trey Parker (the creators of South Park), are BRILLIANT. It’s raunchy, funny, and a great time.
Semi-Pro
A loaded cast with Will Ferrell bringing his A-game as Jackie Moon, you can’t help but laugh from start to finish in this one.
Love and Basketball
The title itself tells the story of what happens throughout the film, but the acting and the direction makes it so much better. Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps share some fantastic on-screen chemistry that carry this film to another level.
