I spoke with the writer of the upcoming Netflix movie The Starling, Matt Harris. We spoke about what the inspiration behind the film was, what it was like to see Melissa McCarthy bring to life his character and a whole lot more.

The Starling is a unique tale of grief and how everyone handles it differently. I enjoyed how we saw a couple who were dealing with the same loss but both were handingly it in different ways. We all process it in ways that we can’t explain and writer Matt Harris does a wonderful job within the script of showing us that.

Melissa McCarthy is brilliant in the role of Lily. Her humor is always there, but McCarthy reminds us that she can bring the serious acting to the table as well. She brings emotion to the role that connects us to LIly’s journey and has us rooting for her battle. Another standout is Chris O’Dowd, he and McCarthy are fantastic together and O’Dowd packed a serious punch within the role that we have yet to see from him on the screen.

The Starling comes to Netflix on September 24, 2021.

  1. I want to know when this was written…I sent my story (published) ‘Boy’ to Melissa McCarthy a few years ago and Starling is eerily similar????????
