Some movies come out and you just know there has to be a sequel. They are so gripping and entertaining, that you can’t help but want to know more about the characters and the storyline. Three movie franchises have earned far more in the box office than their competitors, made actors careers and are still popular today. This article aims to focus on those three franchises and outline what made each of these franchises so popular.

The Ocean’s Franchise

Ocean’s 11, Ocean’s 12, Ocean’s 13 and Ocean’s 8 are four movies within the Ocean’s family that have outdone themselves. Following Danny Ocean, played by George Clooney, the former three (11 – 13) show how he hires a heist of friends to help target casinos. It was a thrilling movie when it came out, as many people did not know how casinos operate, let alone how to heist one. The movie naturally took the spectators through the most beautiful casinos, such as the Bellagio in Las Vegas where you could see the fancy roulette tables, the gorgeous water features and free slots where the prizes are real and the funds kept rolling. The movies were in fact so popular that years later, they went back in time and came out with an Ocean’s 8 that followed Danny’s sister, Debbie Ocean, played by Sandra Bullock and how she also assembled a team of women to perform a heist. This movie even cast the singer superstar Rihanna, which goes to show just how popular and successful the movies were. However, beyond their success, they were simply excellent. Fast and hilarious dialogue, meaningful backstories, good guys vs bad guys and an air of elegance – no wonder they’re considered one of the greatest franchises to ever make it.

Fast & Furious Franchise

A massive hit all across the world! This movie franchise not only starts actors’ careers but even starts singers’ careers. If they have your song in the movie, your song is almost guaranteed to be streamed millions of times across the world. Dom Torreto, played by Vin Diesel, sets the tone and fervor in this excellent car movie. Trying the highlight how street car races are misunderstood and the politics behind the sport, the movie has since turned into something much bigger – a movie icon. The first Fast and the Furious was the humble beginning for the franchise, set largely in the United States or sometimes shooting in Mexico and performing advanced stunts but nowhere near the magnitude of their more recent movies. Now, the franchise also has heavyweights Jason Statham, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Charlize Theron and are shot all around the globe. These are fully-fledged movie stars who have upped the ante of the entire franchise.

Avatar Franchise

When the first Avatar movie came out, under the careful direction of David Cameron, the world could not believe what had just happened. These blue creatures were taking over the screens all across the world. A sci-fi movie rarely has this much impact on an entire global audience but what the director and actors achieved was short of a miracle. People could not wait for the second movie, they were completely tied to the Avatars and the success of their existence. Although it was completely fictional, many felt as though the avatars were real – that’s how good the graphics were. With the first coming out in 2009 and the second in 2022, fans had to wait 13 long years for the re-make but it was worth it. The second movie grossed over 2.32 billion dollars upon its release with fans all over the world wanting to watch how the story unfolds. A spectacular franchise piece and a real feast for the eyes with incredible animations and graphics.
