Sandbox Films, a science-driven documentary production company, announced today that they have signed on to produce the documentary feature NOCTURNES. The international film was one of 10 recipients of the Sundance Institute Sandbox Fund 2020 cohort. Directed by Anirban Dutta and Anupama Srinivasan and set in Northeast India, the film follows a young female scientist studying moths in the dense forests of the Eastern Himalayas and a young indigenous man who rediscovers the forest he has grown up with. Their fascinating journey into the secret world of moths invites us to witness their beauty, their fragility in the face of rising temperatures and our own hidden connection with them.
The film is currently shooting in India. Sandbox Film’s Jessica Harrop, Head of Production, and Greg Boustead, Director & Executive Producer, will be on site with the filmmakers in India this winter.
Jessica, Harrop, Head of Production at Sandbox Films commented, “We are grateful to the team at Sundance Institute for introducing us to this international project, and thrilled to be working with such a creative team on a project that beautifully combines science and art. We can’t wait to show the world how captivating and important moths can be.”
Filmmakers Anirban Dutta and Anupama Srinivasan added, “It has been amazing to have Sandbox Films as a partner on this journey. We have been moved and inspired by their faith in us, and by the unstinting support we have received from them in our exploration of a science-based idea through a cinematic lens.”
